George E. Carmen

George E. Carmen, 92 Born: October 24, 1922 in Roxbourgh, Pa. died peacefully November 2, 2014 Presbyterian Home Quitman, Ga. He was a retired Pan American Airlines sheet metal mechanic. Mr. Carmen moved to Thomasville from Miramar, Fl in 1983.During World War II, he joined the Army in 1942, and served with the 251st Field Artillery Battalion, 25th Infantry Division and 6th Army seeing action in New Guinea and Luzon, Philippine Islands. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. Other citations include: American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years of marriage, Barbara. He is survived by his daughter Deb and his 3 Grand Dogs: Goldie, Blondie and Pumpkin. Other survivors include Sisters in law Eloise Cerniglia and Jeanne Cerniglia. Nephew’s Carl (Sherry) Cerniglia; Eric (Sheryl) Cerniglia; Mark Cerniglia; Nelson (Carol) Cerniglia and Randy (Sue) Cerniglia; as well as numerous grand and great-g rand nephews and nieces.
George took great pride in his military service, and he loved fishing and dogs. He will always be remembered for his outgoing personality – he was often found around town having his morning coffee and talking about a variety of subjects with anyone and everyone who would listen.
A Memorial Service will be observed on 05 December 2014 at 10:00 am St. Thomas Episcopal Church 216 Remington Avenue, Thomasville with Rev. Dwayne Varas, Rector officiating. A private interment will follow the Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Thomas County - Thomasville Humane Society 180 Big Star Drive Thomasville, St. Thomas Episcopal Church 216 Remington Avenue, Thomasville. A very special thank you to the nursing staff on Assisted Living Unit and Unit C. You brought joy and happiness to my Father’s last two years of life. Words cannot express enough my appreciation for the care and thoughtfulness that you gave to me and my Dad.
