George C Hammond passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Sunday, May 5, 2024. Originally from Blakely, Ga, George became a permanent resident of Thomasville in 1971. He served in the Air Force and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He married the love of his life Wink (nee McCall) in 1956.
In 1958, George so impressed the CEO and upper management of GAB (General Adjustment Bureau) that they agreed, for the first time ever, to waive the bachelor degree requirement and hired him as an adjuster. George quickly earned a reputation for integrity and hard work. Soon agents all over South Georgia and beyond began requesting him by name. Later he partnered with Willy T Roberts to form Roberts & Hammond Insurance, which he ran and managed until his retirement.
He and his wife were active in many community organizations and were members of Frist Methodist Church where they made many friends and helped everyone they could. Together they raised two sons, John and Cliff.
Their Happiness was complete when their grandchildren were born. Chelsea, Emily, and George III were truly the most loved grandchildren ever born. George was preceded in death by his beloved Wink in 2019 and by both sons within 3 years. He is survived by his three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Allen & Allen Funeral Home.
