George Maggitas

May 10, 1937 — January 15, 2026

George Dennis Maggitas, 88, of Thomasville, Georgia, passed away on January 15, 2026. Born on May 10, 1937, in Korischades, Greece, he was the cherished son of the late Dennis and Agoro Maggitas.

George proudly served in the Greek military as a military police officer. In 1961, he married his beloved, Connie Mathes Maggitas, who preceded him in death. Subsequently, he settled in Thomasville with Connie and became a proud United States citizen. Together, they shared many joyful years and built a loving family.

George worked at the Rainbow Drive-In and later owned the Train Station Coffee Shop in Thomasville. A talented chef, he worked at the Plaza Restaurant, where he was known to prepare meals that were enjoyed and for his love of conversation.

George was a member of the Holy Mother of God Greek Orthodox Church in Tallahassee, Florida. He found solace and strength in his faith. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing billiards, sharing laughter, and engaging with those around him.

He is survived by his beloved children: Dennis Maggitas of Thomasville, Tommy Maggitas of Freeport, Florida, Christine "Mary" Montague (Scott) of Thomasville, and Johnny Maggitas of Thomasville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dr. Charles Maggitas of Birmingham, Alabama and Christina Maggitas of Washington D.C., and his brother Andrew Magitas of Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as many nieces and nephews.

George was preceded by the death of his parents and his siblings Athanasis Magitas, Aliki Garillas, and Cristy Zalokostas, all of Greece.

The compassionate staff and volunteers of Presbyterian Home and Retirement Community in Quitman are cordially thanked and appreciated for providing George years of care and love.
