Mr. George Owens passed on December 6, 2014. Funeral services will be held at Boston Baptist Church on Tuesday December 9, 2014 at 11 o’clock with graveside services to follow at the Boston Cemetery. Please join our family in celebrating the life of George at his visitation at Allen and Allen Funeral home on Monday December 8, 2014 from 6 o’clock to 8 o’clock. George Lafeyette Owens, Jr. of Boston, GA was born on June 21, 1928 to George L. Owens, Sr. and Katie Lou Morgan Owens. He married Loma Jean Cook at Dawson Street Baptist Church in 1948. For 34 years, he was a fire safety specialist for the State Fire Marshall Office and was also a dedicated 4-H leader throughout his adulthood. Most remember him for his passion of Appaloosa horses, where he devoted much of his time training and showing his horses across the United States. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping and fishing. He was known as a jack of all trades and master of none by many of his friends and family. George had a great sense of humor and enjoyed sharing a good joke with anyone. He was known as “Pops” to many young people he had met during his life. George was a proud and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Loma Jean Owens. He is survived by their children: Janice Green of Tallahassee, FL, Gwen Cocroft, Loma Owens, and Greg Owens (Janiece) all of Thomasville, GA, and Laurie Doyle (Dave) of San Diego, CA. He was the proud grandfather of: Keith Green, Chris Green (Cody), Kim Hufstetler, Jason Mercer, Shane Cocroft, Katie Owens, Parker Owens, Noah Owens, Harrison Owens, Weston Doyle, Elliot Doyle and great-grandchildren RJ Hufstetler and Owen Hufstetler. He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn Gordon of Boston, GA and his brother Larry Owens (Stephanie) of Statesboro, GA. He was preceded in death by his sister Joyce Collins of Boston, GA and his brother Theron Owens of Houston, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Boston Cemetery Fund.
