Services for George Henry Stripling, 72, of Cairo, will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Lee Waller will officiate and interment will follow at 4:00 PM at Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele. Mr. Stripling passed away peacefully at home on May 24, 2017. Born August 8, 1944 in Tifton to Othine Elizabeth Evans and John Stripling, he was raised by his mother and beloved stepfather, Robert Benjamin (Bobby) Cheshire. Both preceded him in death. George attended Lanier High School in Macon and Bibb County Technical School. He worked at the Dempsey Hotel in Macon, Harper Elementary School, John T. Williams, Tom’s Sales and Spring Creek Restaurant in Panacea (Spring Creek), Florida. In the past couple of years, George enjoyed attending Grady County Senior Center. He stated recently his favorite place to live had been Cairo. George also enjoyed helping “out” those less fortunate with transportation for personal needs. He enjoyed riddles and jokes, hugs, and making his nephews laugh with his antics. He had adopted, as his recent PETS, Rascal and Buddy, his sister and brother-in-law’s dogs. He especially enjoyed TV shows from the past, Andy Griffith, the Walton’s, Little House on the Prairie and others. He liked music, Johnny Cash being his favorite. Always he liked repairing lawnmowers and older TVs. George never got in a hurry, especially driving and He was beyond thrifty. He did not enjoy long phone conversations. In fact, he often avoided answering the phone, especially when his siblings were trying to check on him. He is survived by siblings, Nancy Smith (Marcus) of Thomasville, Ann Collier of Cairo, and Loron Cheshire (Amy) of Albany. Beloved nephews included Mark Smith of Bainbridge, Jamie Collier of Americus, Grant Collier (Corrie) of Perry and 3 aunts, Geneva Tillery of Norman Park, Sue Evans of Albany and Mary Lee of San Jose, California as well as numerous very special cousins. In lieu for flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Southwest Georgia, 114 Mimosa Dr, Thomasville, Ga 31792 or church or charity of choice. The family will receive friends 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, before the service at the funeral home.
