George Damour Watt, 98, died peacefully on Friday, April 26 in Jacksonville, Florida. George was born on October 22, 1925 in Thomasville, Georgia to John and Nelia Damour Watt. He is predeceased by his wife, Emrette Toole Watt, brothers John Watt and Augustin (Gus) Watt, son George Lanier Watt, and granddaughter Lindsay Watt.
George graduated from Thomasville High School and enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1943. He was called to active duty in 1943 and spent 6 months in Okinawa, Japan as part of the occupied forces before being discharged. George then attended Presbyterian College (1946-1950) and following graduation returned to Thomasville to work for Faulk Automotive. In January 1951, George was hired by the FBI and moved to Los Angeles, California. It was during a return visit to Thomasville in 1952 that he met his bride of 66 years, Emrette Toole. George's career with the FBI spanned 28 years during which time he was assigned to Los Angeles, CA, Omaha, NE, and then Orlando, FL where he retired in 1979.
After retirement George and Emrette returned to Thomasville where they were active members at Morningside Methodist Church and later, First Baptist Church of Thomasville. George enjoyed singing in the choir and on the praise team at First Baptist Church for many years. The joy of the Lord that filled George's heart was evident to all around, prompting his involvement in Gideons International, An Open Door Adoption Agency, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and several men's bible studies. He was passionate about his walk with Jesus, family, church, country, and of course, his Bulldogs!
George (aka Grandaddy) will be dearly missed by his sons Kenneth Watt (Janet) and John Watt (Michelle) and grandchildren Joshua Watt, Christopher Watt, Jonathan Watt (Hannah), Laura Watt Hager (Matthew) and 7 great-grandchildren.
