Services for Gladys Yandle Carr, 83, of Merrillville will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Merrillville Baptist Church. Rev. James Miller and Rev. Hugh Rockett will officiate, and interment will follow at Big Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gregg Carr, Jr., Logan Baker, Taylor Huite, Brian Robinson, Jody Smith, Bob Smith, Scott Rehberg, and Aaron West. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Frisbie, Calvin Kinard, and Lester Lamb. Mrs. Carr passed away Sunday morning, December 1, 2019. Born May 24, 1936 in Coolidge, she was the daughter of the late Carl Amos Yandle and Allie Murphy Yandle. Mrs. Carr worked with The Bank of Thomas County in Thomasville until the birth of her children and then was a housewife and helped on her parent’s farm. She was famous for her pound cakes and other baked goods which many in this area had the pleasure of enjoying over the years. Gladys was a devoted member of Merrillville Baptist Church where she served as Clerk and Treasurer for over 45 years, as well as Sunday school teacher. Her husband, William Leon Carr and sister, Loretta Yandle preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Mary Ann Wheeler of Coolidge; sons, Wendell Carr of Merrillville and Gregg Carr and wife Lisa of Coolidge; grandchildren, Jami Lyn & Chris Frisbie of Cairo, Gregg Carr, Jr. of Merrillville, Lauren & Taylor Huite of Coolidge, and Logan Baker of Coolidge; great grandchildren, Ella Rae Jones, Sophie Carr, and Baker Huite; nephew, Alan Wheeler and wife Chrissy of Coolidge; great nephew and niece, Cannon Wheeler and Allie Ann Wheeler. Sister-in-Law, Louise Nicholson of Thomasville and niece, Carol Nicholson. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm, Wednesday, December 4th at Allen & Allen Funeral Home. Special thanks to Ashley, Brittany, Shika, Trenay, Adreanna, and Mary Jane of Kindred Hospice and Linda Hancock for the loving care shown the last few weeks.
