Gregory Thomas Gilmer, 68, a beloved son, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2026, in his hometown of Boston, Georgia. Born on December 6, 1957, Greg was raised on a family farm in the Ozell community of Brooks County. At the age of three, he was adopted into the Gilmer family, where he quickly embraced the values of hard work and community.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Greg's passions included hunting, fishing, and all things related to nature. He dedicated his professional life as a heavy equipment operator and was known for his skills in land clearing. His dedication to his craft allowed him to be self-employed and serve his community with pride. Greg enjoyed cooking for everyone and planting a garden to give everyone something to eat. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need and was a lover of all animals.
Greg is survived by his cherished son, Brice Gilmer (Makayla) of Pavo, and his adored grandchildren, Bryson, Brantley, and Kinsley Gilmer. He did his best to keep in touch with his 11 siblings from his birth family. He is also survived by his sisters, Janice Phillips (Sonny) and Lynn Renaud (Paul), both of Tallahassee, Charlotte Farlow (Jay) of Metcalf, Georgia, Mary Jackson of Brooks County, Margaret Marr, Elizabeth Spence Flowers, Debbie Ponzio, and Sherry Vaughan (Wayne) of Atlanta, as well as his brother, Steven Nevels. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lois Gilmer, and his wife, Teresa Owens.
Funeral services for Greg will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 2 PM at Allen and Allen Funeral Home.
