Harley E. Phillips, Jr., 82, passed away at Legacy Village at Plantation Manor in Thomasville on November 28, 2018, after a short illness. He was born May 25, 1936, in Plymouth, Indiana, to the late Harley, Sr., and Florence Lelah (Cripe) Phillips. At 19, he joined the United States Air Force, where he served four years with the 824th Bombardment Squadron, and two years in the USAF Reserves with the 4228th Field Maintenance Squadron (SAC). Following his military service, he worked as a tool and die maker in South Bend, IN, and he also owned his own sand and gravel business. Upon his retirement, he moved to Ochlocknee, where he enjoyed restoring tractors and trucks, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca S. Hancock of Pensacola, FL, and son and daughter-in-law, David L. and Kristine A. Phillips of Suwanee; three grandchildren: Virginia (Hancock) Moore, and her husband, Alexander, of Jacksonville, FL; Willett Davis Hancock, Jr., of Gainesville, FL; and Mary Katharine Phillips of Suwanee; and a sister, Barbara Graves of Mishawaka, Indiana. Allen & Allen Funeral Home in Thomasville is handling cremation. A memorial service is planned for the spring in Indiana.
