Services for Harold Daniel Hayes, Sr. of Thomasville, Georgia will be held at the chapel of Allen and Allen Funeral Home on Sunday, January 28th, 2024 at 2: 00 PM. The Chaplain David Cook will officiate and interment will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Harold was born January 23, 1928, in Round Oak, Georgia to the late George W. and Rosa Hayes. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eugenia "Gini" Kell Hayes, whom he married June 8,1947 in Macon, Georgia at Tatnall Square Baptist Church on the Mercer University campus. Harold was a graduate of Lanier High School in Macon, Georgia, and later attended classes at Mercer University.
While in Macon, Harold served four years in the active Naval Reserve. Harold also served as chairman of the board of deacons at Ingleside Baptist church in Macon. He was co-founder, with his brother Carlton Hayes, of Georgia Sales & Display Service, Inc., a distributor of health and beauty supplies. After years in that field, Harold opened his own business, KD Discount Stores, which sold health and beauty aids throughout middle Georgia. After selling that business, Harold became a realtor and co-owner of Hayes and Hogan Realty in Macon.
In 1980 Harold and Gini moved to Thomasville, Georgia where he established Harold Hayes Insurance Company, a Medicare supplement agency. Harold and Gini they were longtime members of Thomasville First Baptist Church, where Harold taught Sunday school. As a member of the Gideons he enjoyed speaking on their behalf at various area churches. An avid outdoorsman, Harold loved deer hunting and was a charter member of the Big Rack Hunting Club in Jasper County, Georgia, where he enjoyed hunting for 45 years. He especially enjoyed hunting with his good friend Mike Hall of Macon, Georgia who is considered, along with his wife Carol, as Harold's Macon family.
Harold was predeceased by his wife Gini, and his daughter Dr. Lee Hayes Rogers (Ron). He is survived by his son Danny Hayes (Bonnie) of Thomasville, his daughter Holly Hayes Holder (Richard) of Chicago, Illinois.
He was loved by his seven grandchildren, Tyler Hayes Rueff (Todd), Thomasville; Hal Hayes, Savannah, Georgia; Dr. Hope Rogers, Atlanta, Georgia; Ashley Holder Garofalo (Jim) Chicago; Landon Holder (Lauren), Chicago; Emmy Hayes, Thomasville; Whit Hayes, Thomasville; and his nine great grandchildren: Hattie and Harper Rueff, Hank and Ella Hayes, Luke and Bennett Holder, and Anna, Ella, and Emma Garofalo. Harold will also be missed by his companion, Barbara Brinson of Thomasville, Georgia who brought happiness to Harold in his final years.
