Services for Harrell (Harold) Barwick, 92, of Ochlocknee, Georgia will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Allen & Allen Funeral Chapel in Thomasville, Ga. The family will greet friends and family for visitation prior to services from 1 p.m. until time of service. The Rev. Johnny Cooper will officiate with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Thomasville, Ga. Active pallbearers are Jeff Worsham, Arthur Powers, Bryan Sculley, Rodney Biles, Flynt Biles and Joey Blackburn.
Mr. Barwick passed away peacefully on January 1, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. He was born December 10, 1924 to Anna Lee Tillman Barwick and Louie Barwick. He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Hazel Elizabeth Peterman Barwick. He is survived by their five children; Janet (Sonny Burt), Cathy (Danny McGahee), Judy Oliveto, Michael Barwick (Denise), and Kelly Pilkinton (Chris Rogers). He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and eight great great-grandchildren and one sister; Ernestine Morris and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by brothers and sisters, CB Alligood, Dennis Alligood, Mildred Blackburn, Alma Southerland, Louise Luke and William Barwick. Mr. Barwick grew up on the family farm in Colquitt County, Georgia with many brothers and sisters. He joined the army in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1947 as a sergeant. He was an avid outdoorsman that loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and taking care of his home. He spent many years as a quail hunting guide as well as a bird dog trainer. He was well known in the community for his talents in training and showing these bird dogs. He won many trophies over the years that he has shared with his children. He and Mrs. Barwick planted a garden every year and shared with other families. He was a great man with a lot of heart. He left Sunnyland as a truck foreman after 22 years and opened Barwick Sing Station. He retired in 1987.
