Ms. Harriet Glenn Burns was born in Birmingham, AL on December 22th, 1927. She was the third child of Harris and Mattie Glenn (nee Dalton) Burns. She attended The University of Alabama in Birmingham and went on to serve in American National Red Cross during WWII. She served our Armed Forces in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Germany, and many other countries through the war and until the 1960’s. She eventually became a Licensed Social Worker and worked with many youth and adult programs as part of the United Methodist Church as well as the University of Georgia. She came to Thomasville, GA as Director of the Vashti Center for Children and Families and maintained that position until her retirement in the early 1980s. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church and served as a Senior Warden until she was no long able to attend services due to her health. She loved Thomasville as her home and confided in her niece, Mary Glenn Landt that she wanted to be here upon her death. This wish was fulfilled. Harriet Glenn Burns of Thomasville, GA, passed away peacefully December 23rd, 2017. She was 90 years old.
Harriet is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Martha Ida Burns, and Mary Sue Burns Landt, and her brother, Harris Burns, Jr. She leaves behind nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and several Godchildren.
A small grave-side memorial service will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, December 28th, 2017 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 443 Hansell Street, Thomasville, Georgia.
