Services for Dr. Harry Eugene Bruno, 78 of Thomasville will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel. Mark Mitchell will officiate. Dr. Bruno passed away January 4, 2014 at his residence. Born July 25, 1935 in Greensburg, PA, he was the son of the late Daniel Francis Bruno and Emma Evelyn Lusvardi Bruno. He was married to Carol Diane Bruno who preceded him in death. Mr. Bruno earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration with a minor in law enforcement from the University of Southern California. He holds a master’s degree from California State University and a doctoral degree in education from Walden University Institution for Advanced Studies. His teaching career includes colleges in Oklahoma, West Virginia and Canada in addition to Law Enforcement work all over the world. The US Army Veteran was chief of police in cities in Oklahoma and West Virginia. From 1996-2007 Mr. Bruno was given the Award of Recognition for 11 years of dedicated service to Thomas University for the cause of higher education and in 2002 was awarded teacher of the semester in criminal justice at Thomas University. He was given a certificate of appreciation for outstanding & dedicated service for law enforcement by Thomas County Sheriffs Department, Albany City Police Dept. and security NAS. He retired from Bainbridge College. The Trustees of Oxford Round Table presented a certificate to Dr. Harry Bruno for completing the requisite residence in Oxford, England as a member of the Oxford Round Table. Dr. Bruno was 1 of 40 to have this honor to attend the Knights table in England on world peace. He is considered as a well-known expert in homeland security, defense and intelligence gathering, covert operations, juvenile justice, police, terrorism and international crime. In 1998 he was ordained as a minister with Universal Life Church. He was a lifetime member of both the Elks Club and VFW Post in Bartlesville, OK. He was a constant contributor to local charities including but not limited to the Halcyon Home. He is survived by his wife, Mattie Minchew of Thomasville; son, Daniel E. Bruno and wife Robin of Edmond, OK; daughter, Laurel Atkinson and husband Rob of Lavern, CA; brother, Daniel F. Bruno of Chino, CA; step son, Jack Young and wife Charlotte of Thomasville; step daughters, Angela Sangster of Pelham and Denise Hudson of Thomasville; grandchildren, Olivia R. Bruno, Micayla Logue and Eric Hudson; previous wife, Jessie Mitchell and several nieces & nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Halcyon Home, P.O.
