Harry Thomas Tommy Dixon, 80, of Thomasville, peacefully passed away July 4, 2013 at Archbold Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Born In Thomasville on April 4, 1933, he was the son of the late Charles M. and Lillie Mae Dixon. Mr. Dixon was the youngest of five siblings. He graduated from Thomasville High School in 1951 and from the University of Georgia in 1956. He served in the United States Army from 1956 – 1958. He will be missed by many including his wife of 51 years, Mary C. Dixon; son Charles M. Dixon and his wife Suzanne, son, Thomas M. Dixon, daughter, Sissy Faulk and her husband, Philip all of Thomasville and Susan Dixon Poirier and her husband Jeremy, of Shreveport, LA. Also surviving are grandchildren, Ford and Will Faulk, Martha Grace and Mary Cathryn Dixon, and Dixon and Mary Poirier. Other survivors include his sisters Mary Dixon Burke of Atlanta, GA and Louise Dixon Plant of Athens, GA and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Edith Dixon and his brother Dr. Charles Rice Dixon. Tommy coached both his sons in the YMCA football program, was a former Rotarian and supported youth activities at First United Methodist Church where he served on various church committees. He was an avid outdoorsman who was passionate about hunting and fishing. He also loved gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. In 1964, Mr. Dixon established Dixon Exterminating Company now Dixon Pest Services, which has been in business for almost 50 years. He never met a stranger and this was evident in the dear friendships he made throughout his life. Above all, he loved his family and was a wonderful husband, great father, loving grandfather and best friend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 425 North Broad St., Thomasville, GA 31792 or to a charity of your choice. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Thomasville. Rev. Ronnie Wills and Rev. Burns Willis will officiate and internment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 on Friday at Allen & Allen Funeral Home.
