Harvey Hurst, 89 of Meigs passed away on January 8, 2025. He was born in Ochlocknee on April 29, 1935, to the late John Ernest Hurst Sr. and Josephine Russ Hurst.
Harvey was a member of Ochlocknee Baptist Church. In his earlier years, he was drafted into the United States Army in 1958. He was a veteran and received a medal for being an M1 rifle expert. Later on, he worked for Georgia Florida Alabama Peanut Inspection, then later retired from the City of Thomasville after 25 years of service. Harvey loved his farm and cows. He also loved growing fruit and flowers. He married Shelby Hurst on February 4, 1960, and they shared over 64 years of marriage. He said this was the happiest day of his life.
Survivors include his wife, Shelby Hurst; children Michael Hurst of Meigs, Gary Hurst of Meigs, and Brian Steve Hurst of Meigs; grandchildren Michael Hurst Jr. (Catherine), Kimberly Hurst (Sean Lipanovich), Brian Hurst Jr., and Nicholas Austin Hurst; sister Lois Brown of Ochlocknee.
He is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
A service will be held on Saturday, January 11th at 11:00 am at the Allen & Allen Celebration of Life Chapel with David Smith officiating. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service. Harvey will be laid to rest at Ochlocknee City Cemetery.
