Hazel Day Anderson

Hazel Day Anderson, age 99, formerly of Leavenworth, Kansas, passed away on February 13, 2013 in Tallahassee, Florida. She was born in Tonganoxie, Kansas on October 28, 1913, the daughter of Minor H. Day and Anna J. Cox Day. She moved to Leavenworth with her parents when she was four years of age and attended the Leavenworth public schools and graduated from Leavenworth Senior High School in 1931 after which she finished a course at the Leavenworth Business College and then worked in Leavenworth County offices in the courthouse for several years. Before her marriage to Ralph R. Anderson of Chisholm, Minnesota, on May 31, 1946, Mrs. Anderson had been a Civil Service employee since June of 1937, having served in a stenographic and secretarial capacity in the Department of Interior and the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. and the Department of Labor and the U.S. Civil Service Commission in Kansas City, Missouri. She was secretary to the Associate Warden of the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kansas for three years before her marriage. In later years after Mr. Anderson's retirement from federal services, his work took the family to Iowa, Nebraska and Illinois. For eight year before her retirement in December 1977, Mrs. Anderson was employed by the Accounting Department of DuPage County Memorial Hospital of Elmhurst, Illinois. The Andersons moved to Rogers, Arkansas, in February 1978 where they had lived since retirement. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary in 1997. Mrs. Anderson was a member of First Baptist Church in Springdale, Arkansas, and was a member of the Celebration Choir of that church for 16 years. Mr. Anderson passed away in September 1997, and in order to be near some of her family, Mrs. Anderson sold her home in Arkansas and moved to Mooresville, North Carolina. She was a member of Peninsula Baptist Church in Mooresville. In April 2007, Mrs. Anderson moved to assisted living accommodations at Plantation Manor in Thomasville, Georgia, which is near her brother and sister-in-law, who live in Tallahassee, Florida. Mrs. Anderson is survived by two sons, Craig S. Anderson of Chicago, Il., and Jack C. Anderson and his wife, Mary, of Mooresville, N.C., four grandchildren: Elasheva Anderson, Aaron Anderson, Ian Anderson, and Erin Anderson, a sister, Bessie Day Reynolds of Destin, Fl., a brother, Robert W. Day and his wife, Eloise, of Tallahassee, Fl., several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Gladys Marie Day and Frances Day Cary. Visitation will be at Allen & Allen Funeral Home in Thomasville, Ga on Sunday, February 17, 2013 from 5PM to 7PM. Memorial service will be held at Plantation Manor in Thomasville, Ga on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 10AM. Interment will be at Mt. Muncie Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas.
