Graveside services for Helen Elizabeth Hand Pettigrew, 88, of Thomasville, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2009, on 14th street in Laurel Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Bob Dixon will officiate. Mrs. Pettigrew died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, at Plantation Manor. Born Nov. 25, 1920, in Vanceville, Tift County, GA, she was the daughter of the late William Arthur "W. A." and Rosa Veasey Hand. On August 24, 1941, she married William Arthur Pettigrew who preceded her in death. Mr. and Mrs. Pettigrew were the owners of The Index office supply store in Moultrie, GA, from 1954 until 1972, when they retired and moved to Hiawassee, GA. She returned to Thomasville after her husband's death. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include sons, Hank Pettigrew of Charlotte, NC; Don Pettigrew of Valdosta, GA; grandson and wife Jay and Heather Pettigrew, of Lake Park, GA; and great grandchildren, Noah and Sammie Pettigrew. The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, January 9, at the home of her niece, Mary Tomlinson, at 100 Glen Eagle Circle in Thomasville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Georgia, 818 Gordon Ave., Thomasville, GA, 31792. Visitors may sign the online guest register at www.allenfh.com .
