Graveside services for Henry Cook Ray of Thomasville are at 11:00AM on Friday, September 12, 2003 at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mr. Ray died September 8, 2003 at Southern Pines Retirement Home. Born January 10, 1916 in Alma, GA., he was the son of the late Eason M. and Henrianna Cook Ray. On March 6, 1943 in Fort McPherson, Ga., he married Mary Jane Hill who survives. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a retired secretary-treasurer for South Georgia Natural Gas. Mr. Ray graduated from the University of Georgia in 1940 and recieved a degree from Duke University School of Business. He was a United State Air Force Veteran serving in the headquaters of the Fifth Air Force during World War II. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medals with 4 Bronze Stars for New Guinea, Phil Sou Phil and Bismarck Campaigns, as well as American Defense Service Medal and American Theatre Medal. His hobbies were golf, hunting and fishing. He was a devout Christian who loved God and loved people. His family was of utmost value to him. He loved and cared for his wife, Mary Jane, for 63 years and he was a wonderful father and grandfather - a gentle, mild-mannered man who truly cared. He was a fine businessman, a man of integrity and wisdom. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife Mary Jane Ray of Thomasville; daughter and son-in-law, Lyn and Jimmy Hansberger of Atlanta, GA., son and daughter-in-law, Henry C., Jr. Hank and Cathy Ray of Tulsa, OK.; sister, Cleo Saunders of Thomasville; granddaughter, Yancey Hansberger Grainger, grandson, Jim Hansberger, Jr. both of Atlanta, GA., granddaughter, Catharine Ray Russell of Charlotte, N. C., grandsons, Henry Ray, III of Tulsa, OK., and Pratt Ray of Los Angeles, CA.; great granddaughter, Madelyn Grainger of Atlanta, GA, great grandsons, Garrett Grainger of Atlanta, GA., Madison Russell, Brayden Russell both of Charlotte, N.C., and Griffin Ray of Tulsa, OK. He was preceded in death by sisters, Regina Stringer, Ted Hjort and Florence Ray; brothers, Verner Ray and Bernard Ray. Memorials may be made to the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, P.O.
