Henry Darrell Elwell

Henry Darrell Elwell passed away on December 25, 2023, at the age of 82. Born on May 5, 1941, in Ochlocknee, Georgia, he was the son of Hubert and Nadine Elwell. Henry spent the majority of his life in Atlanta, Georgia. He went on to earn his Civil Engineering Degree, a testament to his dedication and intelligence. He pursued a fulfilling career as an engineer, working for the Georgia Department of Transportation for an admirable 34 years. His commitment to his work earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

Outside of his professional life, Henry had a passion for experiencing the beauty of nature. He found solace and joy in traveling to Cumberland Island and Alligator Point, where he often indulged in the serenity of these natural landscapes. He eventually retired to Alligator Point, FL so that he could be close to his parents, who lived in Thomasville, before they passed. A true adventurer at heart, he cherished the freedom of riding his beloved Harley-Davidson motorcycle, exploring new territories and embracing the open road. Furthermore, Moose Lodge in Panacea held a special place in his heart, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and fellowship of his fellow members.

Henry Darrell Elwell is survived by his loving sons, Chris Elwell of Thomasville and Derek Elwell of Lebanon, Tennessee. He leaves behind cherished memories for his grandchildren, Henry Duncan Elwell and Charles Christopher Elwell, who will forever remember their grandfather's love and guidance. Additionally, he is survived by his nephews, who will always carry his memory with them. During his life, Henry was preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Pless, and his brother, James Randell Elwell.

A visitation will be held at the Plaza in Thomasville on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 5 pm, allowing friends, family, and members of the community to gather and honor his life.
