Services for Henry Melton Hobbs, Jr., 82 of Thomasville, will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, May 31, 2018, at First Baptist Church Sanctuary. Rev. Marty Carnes will officiate, and interment will follow in Salem Cemetery. Mr. Hobbs passed away May 27, 2018, at Archbold Hospital. Born March 15, 1936, in Thomasville, he was the son of the late Henry Melton Hobbs, Sr., and Nina Jordan Hobbs, Mother and Christine Jordan Hobbs, Mamma. On December 22, 1956, in Rose Hill, Colquitt County, he married Ann Griner Hobbs, living 61 years of married life. He was owner and operator of Hobbs Land Development, developing Tall Timbers Village, Ivey Hill, Cedar Hill, and DeChene Drive. His work was his hobby. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a lifetime honorary deacon. He pastored two churches, Evergreen Baptist Church and Charity Mission. In 1995, he received a certificate of achievement from Kiwanis Club for 35 years of service in the building industry. In 1987 & 1988 he received the Jaycees Distinguished Service award and he served ten years on the Planning & Use Board for Thomas County. He is survived by his wife, children, Timothy Melton Hobbs, Sr. and wife Margaret of Thomasville, Allen Fletcher Hobbs of Boston and Connie Hobbs Vaughan and husband Greg of Ochlocknee; grandchildren, Timothy Hobbs, Jr., David Hobbs, Charity Porter, Kandace Hobbs, Luke Vaughan and Kelon Vaughan; great-grandchildren, Kaleb Hobbs, Alessa Hobbs, Melody Hobbs, Charlee Hobbs, Berkeley Porter, Willa Porter and David Porter; sisters, Daisy McCorvey and husband Jack of Albany, Amy Parker and husband Jim of Thomasville and Le Duckworth and husband Don of Memphis, Tennessee and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Marvin Hobbs, and great-granddaughter, Harmony Caroline Hobbs. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church (Senior Area Building Fund), PO Box 2790, Thomasville, Ga 31799. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm, Wednesday, May 30th at Allen & Allen Funeral Home.
