Oliver Jones, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, in his lifelong hometown of Thomasville, Georgia. Born on August 19, 1941, to H.O. Jones, Sr. and Linda Reeves Jones, Oliver was a proud member of the community who dedicated his life to both his family and his work. He was a 43 year employee of Balfour Pulpwood and Lumber Companies. He also served in the National Guard.
Oliver was a man of few words, yet his kindness and gentle demeanor touched the hearts of many. Oliver was a member of Dawson Street Methodist Church. He greatly enjoyed tending to his yard and maintaining his property. Throughout the years, Oliver made a significant impact on the lives of young athletes in Thomasville by coaching youth baseball and girls and women's softball. His commitment to nurturing the talents of countless children in the community showcased his dedication and passion for helping others.
In his later years, Oliver devoted himself to caring for his wife, Margie, demonstrating the selflessness and devotion that defined his character. His memory will live on through his loving children, Kay Jones McCullers (Mike) of Jacksonville, Fl, Steven Jones (Trista) of Thomasville, and Angie Jones (Marcie) of Pensacola, Fl, his beloved grandchildren, Peyton and Taylor McCullers (Taylor), Riley and Grayson Jones, and his cherished great-grandchildren, Ansley and Shane McCullers. Oliver is also survived by his sister Elaine Booker (Randy) and Beth Norris (Brent), and his brother Randy Jones (Elaine), as well as brother-in-law Clayton Mims, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Oliver was preceded in death by his devoted spouse, Margie Willis Jones, and his sister Shirley Folmar, sisters-in-law Sue Willis Cleveland and Carolyn Willis Mims, and brother-in-law James Cleveland.
A graveside service to honor Oliver's life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Laurel Hill Cemetery, with Dr. Jimmy Clanton officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Friday, December 6, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Allen and Allen Funeral Home.
