Memorial visitation for Al Stewart will be held from 5-7pm on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Allen & Allen Celebration of Life Chapel. Herman Alvin "Al" Stewart Jr., age 75, resident of Thomasville passed away on September 20, 2021, at Select Specialty Hospital. He was born on July 24, 1946, son to the late Herman A. and Sarah Gassett Stewart Sr. He was a graduate of Central High School and grew up attending Midway Baptist Church. Al was an avid walker, often walking 3 miles a day, and a voracious reader of mostly historical and other nonfiction books. He loved visiting the Thomas County Public Library and usually visited there at least once a week. He enjoyed baseball especially when the Atlanta Braves were playing. Al was a quiet man, but quick to smile. He never complained even when enduring grueling chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
Al leaves to cherish his memory his children Stan Stewart of Ocala, Florida, and Stacey Davis of Ochlocknee; grandchildren Ryan Love of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Elena Love of Thomasville, and Brady Stewart of Ocala, Florida; brothers Cole Stewart and Brent Stewart; and partner Sylvia Taylor.
There will be no grave. Instead, a Tulip Poplar Tree will be planted in his honor, and lovingly tended by his family. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to cancer research at the American Cancer Society.
