Howard Braxton Bryant

Funeral services for Howard Braxton Bryant, 91, of Ochlocknee, GA will be held Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Thomasville. The Rev. Dr. Milton C. Gardner will officiate the service and interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery. Mr. Bryant was born on July 19, 1922 in Grady County, GA. He was the son of Robert Lee Bryant and Cora Mae Folds Bryant, and step-son of Katie Brinkley Bryant, who preceded him in death. At the stroke of Midnight on August 2, 1942, he married the love of his life, Della Isola Cone of Thomas County. During WWII, Mr. Bryant served in the United States Navy. After the war, he enlisted in the United States Army retiring with 24 years of service. After his military career, he graduated from Thomas Technical School (now Southwest GA Technical College). He served as the chief electrician at Coats & Clark in Pelham until his retirement. When Mr. Bryant was not working, he was an avid fisherman. He was known for the fish frys that he had and hosting family gatherings. He also enjoyed camping, and gardening. Mr. Bryant was a member of First Baptist Church of Thomasville, where he was active in the Young at Heart Choir. He rarely missed his Sunday school class taught by P.C. Andrews. Mr. Bryant was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, the American Legion, the Ochlocknee Civic Club and Golden K Kiwanis Club. Survivors include son, Jimmy and Lynn Bryant of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, son, Danny and Linda Bryant of Phoenix, Arizona, daughter, Judy and Edward Harden of Boston, GA. Also surviving are grandchildren, Scott Bryant, Heather Bryant Otte, Michael Bryant Novy, Braxton Bryant, Kim Bryant Soto, Whitney Harden Shade, and Bryant Harden. Other survivors include great-grandchildren, Crystal Tollefson, Rowan Otte, Mariano Soto,Jr, Benicio Soto, Aurora Soto, and Braxton Shade. He is preceded in death by wife, Della Cone Bryant, and 18 siblings and step-siblings. Memorial Donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Georgia at 114A Mimosa, Thomasville, GA, 31792. The family will receive friends 10-11 am before the service at the church chapel. Visitors may sign the online guest register at www. allenfh.com.
