Hubert A. Elwell

Services for Hubert A. Elwell, 93, of Thomasville will be at 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 30, 2010, at Dawson St. Baptist Church, where he was a member. Steve Clawson will officiate and internment will be in Little Ochlocknee Cemetery. Mr. Elwell died on December 26, 2010 at his residence. Born February 15, 1917 in Ochlocknee, GA, he was the son of the late William Henry and Sallie Carter Elwell. On August 3, 1938 in Camellia, GA, he married Maryann Nadine Chastain Elwell, who preceded him in death. Mr. Elwell was retired from Colonial Foods, where he was a foreman at the Thomasville warehouse/distribution center. He was a devoted and loving father to his family and cared for his mother and siblings after the early death of his father. Family and friends will never forget his delicious fried mullet, hush puppies and coleslaw. An avid reader with an inquisitive mind, he was thrilled by the awe, wonder and beauty of the Universe as revealed through books and especially the Hubble telescope. Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Cheri Pless of St. Petersburg, FL; son, Darrell Elwell of Alligator Point, FL; grandchildren, Derek T. and DeAna Elwell, Christopher Troy and Cindy Elwell, Jonathan and Erin Elwell , David and Jessica Elwell; great-grandchildren, Henry D. Elwell, Charles C. Elwell, Alton Elwell, Abigail Elwell, Jennifer Elwell and daughter in law, Dixie Stack Elwell. Also surviving are brothers, James Odell Elwell, Russell B. Elwell, and a sister Pauline E. Elwell all of Fayetteville, GA. He was preceded in death by a son, James Randall ?Jim? Elwell. The family will receive friends from 3:00-6:00 p.m, Wednesday at the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to lunch at noon Thursday at the Plaza.
