HUGH MCDONALD INMAN

Hugh McDonald Inman, better known to his family and close friends as "Jie", was born July 10, 1922 to the late Benjamin Stinson and Pearl McDonald Inman in Thomasville, Georgia where he would spend his childhood years culminating with his graduation from Thomasville High School. Upon his graduation from high school, he received appointments to both Annapolis and West Point, but was unable to attend much to his disappointment because of his color blindness. He attended North Georgia College for two years and transferred to the University of Georgia. At the on-set of WWII, he enlisted in the United States Army and served overseas in Italy. After the war, he returned to University of Georgia where he earned degrees in both Mathematics and Business Administration. While at UGA, Jie was very active in all facets of student life. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity where he served as president on two different occasions. He was also a member of the Gridiron Club and the Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Scholastic Society, which honors academic achievement.

Hugh spent the large majority of his highly successful professional career as CEO of Stevens Graphics, a large commercial printing company responsible for the printing of the telephone directories throughout the southeastern U.S. Upon retiring from Stevens Graphics, he went into the commercial real estate business with his two sons, Don and John, by starting HMI Enterprises which owned and operated several local Atlanta apartment properties. Among many, many other professional accomplishments, Hugh was a practicing CPA and passed the Georgia Bar exam without ever attending law school. He was very active in the community and his church, Peachtree Presbyterian Church where he served as a church elder for many years. He was also a proud member of the Atlanta Rotary Club, Cherokee Town and Country Club, Capital City Club, and Waterfall Country Club on Lake Burton. Jie gave generously of his time and money to numerous organizations throughout the community including Pace Academy, the Shepherd Spinal Center and George West Mental Health Foundation.

Hugh served on many Boards throughout his life including the Georgia Federal Bank, Montreat College, Children's HealthCare of Atlanta Foundation, and the Action Capital Corp. He was recognized in 1985 as Man of the Year in the Georgia Printing Industry and received the Ben Franklin Award. In 1988, he was Thomasville, Georgia's Man of the Year and was inducted into his hometown's Trailblazer Society.

He was a lover of the game of golf and gin rummy and his favorite past time was spending quality time with his family and traveling the world. He was known as someone with a great sense of humor, who worked hard, and played hard and was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs.

He died May 26th of natural causes. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, the former Betty Ann Boyet and their four children: Margaret Inman Wilson "Peggy" and her husband Scott of Red River, NM, William Edward Inman "Bill" of Palm Coast, FL, Hugh M. Inman, Jr. "Don" and his wife Beth of Atlanta, GA and John S. Inman and his wife Tish also of Atlanta, and nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild, sisters Jane Shirah of Savannah and Eleanor "Onie" Turrentine of Atlanta. Local survivors include sister-in-law, Lynne M. Inman, nephews, Ben S. Inman III, David Inman and Bill Inman all of Thomasville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ben S. Inman, Jr.
