Services for Inez P. Newsome are at 2:00PM on Monday, January 10, 2005 at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Dan Spencer and the Rev. Dr. Milton Gardner will officiate and interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Byron Thompson, Kevin Thompson, Van Pappas, Garrett Newsome, Billy Chastain and Bill Raney. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Chastain, Gary Wilson, Dr. Rick Fenlon, M. M. Battley, Jack Lattrell and Howard Floyd. Mrs. Newsome passed away on January 7 at the age of 81. She was born Carrie Inez Pogue on January 4, 1924 in High Springs, Florida. She attended Central Florida Business College and went to secretarial school in Gainesville, Florida. When she married Mr. Glenn Bozeman in 1944, she moved to Haines City, Florida. After the passing of her husband in 1979, she remained in Haines City until 1986. Mrs. Newsome worked as a secretary in the Polk County public school system for thirty years. During that time, she served for two years as president of the Polk County Association of Educational Secretaries, and received an award for outstanding work in the Educational Secretaries Association. Mrs. Newsome was also a member of the Eastern Star, serving as Star Points Adah and Ruth. After retiring from her work with the school system in 1986, Mrs. Newsome moved to Thomasville, Georgia to be near her daughter, Glenda Thompson. On January 9, 1988, she married Homer Lee Newsome in Thomasville. Mr. and Mrs. Newsome shared a common love of family, traveling, and their church. Mrs. Newsome has been an active member of the First Baptist Church in Thomasville since 1986. She was president of the Ginger Griffin Sunday School class for two years. She was also active in the Auxiliary of American Legion Post 31 and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Mrs. Newsome is survived by her husband of 17 years, Homer Lee Newsome; her daughter, Glenda Thompson, of Dacula, Georgia; her sister, Willie Ruth Chastain; two step-children, Dan Newsome and Carole Newsome; three grandchildren, Lori Thompson Pappas, Byron Thompson and Kevin Thompson; and three step-grandchildren, Garrett Newsome, Chason Newsome, and Trey Hayes. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 9, from 3-5PM at Allen and Allen Funeral Home. Visitors may sign the online guest register at www.allenfh.com .
