Services for Ivan Berry "Jake" Stegall, Jr., 82, of Thomasville, are at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Jan. 22, 2010 at Allen and Allen Funeral Chapel. Rev. Buhler will officiate and interment is in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mr. Stegall passed away Monday, Jan. 18 at his residence. Born, July 18, 1927, in Thomas County, he was the son of the late Ivan Berry, Sr. and Lennie Eulalie Davis Stegall. On Dec. 13, 1962, in Thomasville, he married Mary Kate Barker Stegall, who survives. He was a resident of Thomas County for 82 years. He served in the National Guard Reserves. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was also a member of the ASCS committee. At a young age he worked at Thomasville Fertilizer Company. He worked for the U.S. Post Office for 25 years and was a full time farmer for many years. In 1961 he was awarded Thomas County Farmer of the Year. Other survivors include daughter, Kay Stegall Currie; sons, John Barry Stegall and Joseph Ivan Stegall; sisters, Emily Jane Stegall and Margaret E. Sawyer; son-in-law, Bruce Currie; daughters-in-law, Sandra Dunlap Stegall and Glenda Simmons Stegall; grandchildren, John Barry Stegall, Jr., Benjamin L. Stegall Lauren, Katlyn G. Currie and Taylor N. Stegall; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Elaine Floyd. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday. Visitors may sign the online guest register at www.allenfh.com .
