Graveside services for Jack Dorsey Murphy, Sr., 83, of Boston are 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Boston Cemetery. The Rev. Kirk Beckham will officiate. Mr. Murphy passed away January 24, 2011 at his residence. Born December 30, 1927 in Autryville, Ga, he was the son of the late Lincoln Murphy and Vertie Plymale Murphy. He was married to Louise Player Murphy, who preceded him in death. Mr. Murphy was former chief of police of Boston, chief of security for Southwestern State Hospital and was self employed as a farmer and had a fertilizer business. He was a veteran of the US Navy and an honorary deputy sheriff. Survivors include daughter Sonya Jacqueline Murphy of Boston; grandchildren, Christa Socias, Sheena Socias and Stephanie Socias; great grandchildren, Jade, Anthony and Rose; sister, Betty Smith and husband Palmer of Metcalf and brother, Bobby Odom. He was preceded in death by sons, Jack Murphy, Jr., and David Murphy; daughter, Wanda Murphy; brother, James Murphy and sister, Vivian Bramlett.
