A memorial service for Jack Kelly Luttrell, 87 of Thomasville will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, November 29, 2012 at First Baptist Church Chapel. Rev. Dr. Milton C. Gardner and Rev. Marty Carnes will officiate. Mr. Kelly went home to be with the Lord on November 20, 2012 at Southern Pines. Born November 29, 1924 in Knoxville, TN, he was the son of the late Robert S. Luttrell and Bertha Bacon Luttrell. He married Betty Jane Johnson Luttrell in 1996, who survives. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn McCarty Luttrell. Jack graduated from Knoxville High School. He then attended Florida State University among the first male students to graduate that institution, earning a degree in Social Work. Later he graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, earning a Masters Degree of Religious Education. Jack had a long career as a director in the American Red Cross while serving in Europe and the USA. He also acted as a lay chaplain on several military bases. His service in the United States took him to many disasters including the Alaskan Earthquake in 1964. He concluded his career as Manager of the Tallahassee Chapter of the American Red Cross. He was also president of the Lions Club in Tallahassee. After retiring from the Red Cross he followed God's calling to become a full time Minister. In this service he was privileged to pastor several churches in Louisiana and Florida. Finally he resided in Thomasville where he was a member of First Baptist Church of Thomasville; Gideon's International, Golden K Kiwanis and also served in the Archbold Hospital Auxiliary. Other survivors include his children, Evelyn Diane Johnson and husband Michael, Gisele Luttrell Fowle and husband Ken; grandchildren, Jessica Johnson and husband Bryan Bock, Brantley Johnson and wife Leigh, Jared Withrow, Kerby Pickens and husband Stephen, McCarty Johnson and Cody Withrow; stepdaughters, Barbara Johnson and Beverly Freeman; step grandchildren, Aaron Freeman and wife Jessica, Gabriele Freeman, Lydia Freeman and Hannah Freeman; great grandchildren, Wyatt Johnson, Luke Johnson, Jack Johnson and Sophia Bock. He was preceded in death by step son-in-law Paul Freeman. In lieu of flowers, it was Jack's wish that donations be made to Gideon's International, P.O. Box 2361, Thomasville, Ga 31799 or the American Red Cross, 527 N. Paterson St, Valdosta, Ga 31601 in his memory.
