John R. (Jack) Lauder, 65, of Thomasville, GA, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. A memorial service for Jack will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, December 5, 2021, in the Allen & Allen Celebration of Life Chapel with his honorary sister, Sherri Barham, officiating.
Jack, son of Robert G. Lauder and Annelle Ulm Lauder, was born in Tallahassee, FL on October 3, 1956. He was a 1974 graduate of Thomas County Central and graduated from Georgia Southern College in 1978. He married Karyl Halstead Lauder on July 24, 1982, in Thomasville. They have one beloved son, Bryce C. Lauder.
Jack believed in living life to the fullest, and always went “all in” with whatever he was spending time doing. He had a wide and varied assortment of passions and interests through the years, including waterskiing, boating, snow skiing, and his all-time favorite, scuba diving. Jack and Karyl traveled extensively throughout the years, but after he learned to dive, the destination almost always was a tropical locale where he could explore the oceans and Karyl could enjoy the beach.
Jack loved music, adventures, and spending time with his family, friends, and extended family at the Y. One of the great joys in life for him was cooking and sharing his food with others. He learned the art of the grill from his dad, Cajun cooking from his Louisiana buddies, and really enjoyed experimenting to create new dishes with flavors from his travels. Jack was also an avid sports enthusiast and shared that passion with his son by coaching Bryce through Little League baseball, refereeing and umpiring football and baseball, supporting Thomasville High booster clubs, and cheering on his Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs. In the perfect melding of cooking and sports, he also loved making boiled peanuts and provided countless bushels for the concession stands at Bryce’s football and baseball games. In later years he continued this tradition by sharing those many bushels with his family and friends.
Jack is survived by Karyl, his wife of 39 years 4 months and 6 days, his son Bryce, and daughter-in-law, Tara. He is also survived by his mother, Annelle Lauder, sister Lauri Lauder, brother Cal (Carri) Lauder, sister Shannon (Tom) Lassiter, aunt Wilma Lauder (Bud Carlson), as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Lauder, and grandparents Papa Jack and Frances Lauder and Pete and Kaye Ulm.
