Graveside services for Jack Brewton Martin, 81 are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Monday July 11, 2016 in the Brewton family plot on 6th St in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Rev. Jim Smith and Rev. Burns Wills will officiate. Mr. Martin passed away on July 9, 2016 at Camellia Gardens of Life Care. Born on March 10, 1935 in Decatur County, Georgia he was the son of the late Maude Brewton Martin of Thomasville and the late N. Amos Martin of Bainbridge. He was a graduate of Thomasville High School and South Georgia College in Douglas and attended Georgia State College in Atlanta. During the Korean conflict he served in the U. S. Marine Corp and rose to the rank of Sergeant, touring the Mediterranean twice and the Panama Canal Zone. He was employed by Blount Construction Co. in Atlanta until his retirement when he returned to Thomasville. While in Atlanta, he studied art and enjoyed part time painting. Mr. Martin was a member of First United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 31 and the N.R.A. Mr. Martin was predeceased by his parents and two siblings, Sam L. Martin of Thomasville and Alice Martin Hamilton of Atlanta. He is survived by a sister Ruth Martin Willett of Thomasville, with whom he lived the last couple of years. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews: R Marty Willett of Jacksonville, Florida, Lea Willett Sampson (Corky) of Thomasville, Clay Willett of Kennesaw, Georgia, Deane Williett Williams (Mike) of Valdosta, S. Les Martin of Thomasville, Sandra Martin Smith of Quitman, Jane Hamilton Patton (Jerry) of Snellville, Harry H. Hamilton, Jr. of Kennesaw and Linda Hamilton Garriga (Alvaro) of Atlanta. Surviving locally are a great niece, Danielle Sampson and great nephews Matt Sampson and Brody Martin. There are also six other great nieces and five great nephews, as well as eleven great-grand nieces and nephews. Also locally he has a special step niece, Gale Hopkins. He is also survived by a special friend, Nancy Honea of Stone Mountain, Georgia. The family thanks the staff at Camellia Gardens for their kind care of Mr. Martin. Also thanks to Dr. William Cooper and staff, Dr. William Ellis, Dr. Taren Ohman, Dr. Craig Wolfe and the Southwest Georgia Hospice group. The family will greet guests following the service. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
