Mr. Allen died Thursday, Feb. 23, at Southern Pines. Born July 17, 1916 in Thomas Co., GA he was the son of the late O. W. and Elizabeth Cobb Allen. He was a life long resident of Thomasville and married Rilzie Cason Allen of Blackshear, GA on February 11, 1940 in Thomasville. Mr. Allen was a member of First Baptist Church, Thomasville Masonic Lodge, a Shriner and a Kiwanian. He was an electrical contractor and an amateur golfer. Mr. Allen began his business pursuits in 1926 at the age of 10 with a newspaper route that paid for his bicycle and school money. After graduation from Thomasville High School in 1935, he worked as an electrician for Harris Electric and continued his education through the International Correspondence School home study program. During WWII, he worked as plant maintenance manager at Flowers Baking Company; and, following the war, he founded Allen Electric Company in 1947. He was a hard worker, and appreciated and respected those who were the same. He was an avid golfer at Glen Arven Country Club and enjoyed the game and fellowship with many of his regular group of players. His eight hole-in-ones and two doubles-eagles attest to the fact that he hit a lot of golf balls. He had a quick sense of humor, and loved to tease his friends.
