Graveside services for James Lee Cook, 89, of Thomasville, will be held Monday, April 8, 2024, at 11 am at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Lee passed away peacefully at Woodleaf Assisted Living with his family present on Friday, April 5, 2024. Mr. Cook was born October 8, 1934, in Monroe, Ga. He graduated from Monroe High School and attended the University of Georgia where he met the love of his life, Betty, and obtained his BBA degree. Lee was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James George Cook (Frankie Rachel) in Monroe and the brother of the late Faye Raiford of Monroe. He married the late Rose Elizabeth (Betty) Nunnally of Thomasville on July 14, 1957.
Lee served in the US National Guard from 1957-1963. In 1962 he and Betty moved to Thomasville and Lee was employed by Davco Corporation. He later worked for Flowers Industries, the City of Thomasville, and various other companies before later retiring from Greensouth Equipment Company after 17 years of service. He was a member of Thomasville First Methodist Church. Lee enjoyed UGA football, reading, history, and woodworking. He had a special hand in craftsmanship which was displayed in the beautiful pieces he created. He also had a special love for dogs.
Lee is survived by his two children; daughter Julie Cook Collins (Lee) of Thomasville, and son Tim Cook of Thomaston, Ga; four grandchildren, Brooke Collins Ray (Tyler) of Valdosta, Hannah Collins James (Hunter) of Carrollton, Ga, and Avery and Bryce Cook of Thomaston, Ga; and one great-grandson Ayden Ray of Valdosta, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Methodist Church or the Thomas County Humane Society. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Woodleaf Assisted Living, Abide Home Care, GA Hospice, and private caregivers for their compassionate love and care over the last few years.
