James Anthony Fleetwood, Sr, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2023, at the age of 84. Known for his warm personality, strong work ethic, and dedication to his family, James will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
James was born on October 6, 1939, in Moultrie, GA, to the late James Franklin Fleetwood and Ethel Mae Griffin Fleetwood.
James pursued his education diligently and earned his High School Diploma, laying the foundation for a successful career. For several decades, he dedicated himself to the manufacturing industry as a dedicated salesman for Jenkins Manufacturing and then for Lowes. His hard work, honesty, and passion for his profession earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
Outside of work, James had a deep commitment to his community, embodying the spirit of service and generosity. He was an active member of Dawson Street Baptist Church, where he found solace and belonging. He also shared his love for sports and coaching by dedicating 15 years to coaching his sons and others at the local YMCA. His guidance and encouragement had a lasting impact on the lives of many young athletes.
Above all else, James treasured his role as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his devoted wife, Joan Fleetwood, who was his rock and source of inspiration. Their unwavering love and support for each other stood as a beacon of strength throughout their marriage.
James will forever remain in the hearts of his three sons, Tony Fleetwood of Savannah, GA, Jeff Fleetwood of Thomasville, GA, and Greg Fleetwood of Jacksonville Beach, FL. His legacy lives on through his cherished grandchildren, Kyle Fleetwood and Carlie Fleetwood, who were a constant source of joy and pride for him. Also surviving is his brother Billy Fleetwood and wife Jean, along with his nephew Shannon Fleetwood and wife Becky. He was preceded in death by his grandson James Austin Fleetwood.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the many friends and extended family members who have offered their support and condolences during this difficult time.
A graveside service to celebrate James' life will be held at 2:30PM on Monday November 20, 2023 in Laurel Hill Cemetery on Tennessee St. with Pastor Lee Powell officiating.
