Services for James Hilton Palmer, 83, of Thomasville are 11:00 am, Saturday, November 22 at Little Ochlocknee Baptist Church, where he was a member. The Rev. Jimmy Voyles and Rev. Mitch Conner will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Glenn Fielding, Willis Palmer, Mike Palmer, Donnie Surles, Brian Palmer and Tony Benton. Mr. Palmer died November 18, 2008 at Archbold Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born May 15, 1925 in Thomas County, he was the son of the late Arthur Lee Melton Palmer and Martha Stanaland Palmer. He was married to Edna Benton Palmer, who survives. He was an Army veteran and received a purple heart in WWII and a Bronze star; he was a commander of the VFW, a member of the DAV and American Legion. He worked as a bookkeeper for Greenwood Plantation for 33 ½ years. Other survivors include sons & daughters-in-law, Andy & Linda Palmer of Meigs, Steve & Rhonda Palmer of Quitman, son Gary Palmer of Thomasville, grandchildren, Lori Palmer, Charles Palmer, Matt Palmer, Brian Palmer, brothers, W.L. Palmer of Thomasville, brother & sister-in-law, Leo & Carolyn Palmer of Thomasville, sisters, Evelyn Alligood of Cairo, Edna Surles of Thomasville, sister & brother-in-law, Margie & Tom Griffin of Arkansas and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Little Ochlocknee Cemetery Fund, 2755 Egg & Butter Rd N, Ochlocknee, Ga 31773. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Friday in Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel.
