Graveside services for James Hilton Turner will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM on 16th street in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Rev. William T. Majors will officiate. The honorary pall bearers will be the Men's Sunday School Class of 1st Newark Baptist Church. Mr. Turner passed away August 2, 2013 in Jacksonville, FL. Born at Archbold Hospital, in Thomasville, Ga on November 15, 1947; he was the son of Burnice L. Turner of Jacksonville, Fl and the late Katherine Johnson Turner who preceded him in death on April 23, 2011. Other survivors include brother and sister-in-law, Burnice Turner II and Jennifer, Victoria, B.C., Canada and his extended family that he loved dearly. When he was a small child his family moved to Jacksonville, FL, where he attended school and graduated. He later served in the Marine Corps, and was then employed by the state of Florida in law enforcement. After retiring from the state, he was employed by Alachua County, Florida, also in law enforcement. After retiring from Alachua County he returned to Jacksonville where he remained. Mr. Turner was a good man, a long time Baptist Christian and was deeply dedicated to the care and welfare of his parents. He was always helpful to friends and neighbors, a very giving and sharing person. That was just James. He had several hobbies which he enjoyed. He loved to read, listen to his special music and watch his favorite sports. His most enjoyable outside hobbies were golfing and salt water fishing. Mr. Turner will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends. Memorial donations may be sent to the Community Hospice of Jacksonville, FL, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
