James John Hone, 69 of Thomasville, passed away at his home on May 31, 2026. Jimmy was born on September 8, 1956, in Greenwich, CT, to the late Emmett Robert Hone and Eloise Tatroe Hone.
Jimmy proudly served in the US Navy and had a lifetime of continued USGC education to maintain and further his issued captain's license. Jimmy, being a longtime seafarer, moved into commercial boating following an honorable discharge from the Navy, followed by 25 years as a private yacht captain. In his career, he traveled all over the world and always had many great tales to tell along the way, amusing us all. During his years in Thomasville, he was always a friendly face to see and one to have a laugh with while working at the Billiard Academy on Broad Street.
Jimmy married his wife, Maureen Hone, on March 16, 1996, in the Florida Keys. Together, they shared a bond built on love, mutual respect, and countless cherished moments. In his spare time, Jimmy enjoyed hunting, boating, traveling, and cooking. Jimmy was deeply devoted to his dogs, who brought him immense joy and companionship. He was known for his continuous efforts to improve his property in Beachton, where he spent a lot of his time.
Survivors include his loving wife, Maureen Hone; daughter Mary Murphy Hone of Miami; siblings Leonie (Lee) Chubb (Russell, deceased) of Thomasville, Robert Hone (Ethel) of Madison, CT, and the late Michael J. Hone (Lynne, deceased) of Old Greenwich, CT and the late Timothy Hone of Clearwater, FL followed by numerous sisters & brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.A service will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 11 am at Allen & Allen Funeral Home. This will be followed by an open house Celebration of Life at The Plaza from 1-3 pm.
