Private services for James Jackson Lester, Jr. of Thomasville will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery on Saturday, November 10. The Rev. Stephen Murray will officiate. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 on Saturday, November 10 at the home of Anne and Dudley Lewis at 120 Lake Trace Drive. Mr. Lester died November 8 at Plantation Manor. Born August 4, 1926 in Amsterdam, Georgia, he was the son of James Jackson Lester, Sr. and Roberta Miller Lester. On December 1, 1951 in Thomasville, Georgia, he married Dorothy Ball Ferguson Lester who survives. He attended Presbyterian College for two years and received a B.B.A. degree from Emory University where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Lester was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, an Elder, and Chairman of the World Mission Conference. He was a former member of the Thomasville Rotary Club where he served as Chairman of the Salvation Army Committee for several years, Thomasville Landmarks, the Thomas County Historical Society, and Sons of the American Revolution. He was a salesman for Men's Hats, Inc. and Excello Shirts. After retiring, he was a realtor with Nunnally and Associates and an associate broker with First Thomasville Realty. Other survivors include daughters and sons-in-law Anne and Dudley Lewis, Thomasville, Georgia, Miriam and Joe Funderburk, Cairo, Georgia, and Dorothy and Mike Johnson, Columbus, Georgia and grandchildren Herbert Lee Stoddard IV Felicia, Anne Marie Stoddard, Allison Stoddard, Charles Joseph Funderburk, James Graham Johnson, and David Thayer Johnson, and one great-granddaughter, Aubrey Maddison Singletary, a sister and her husband, Dr. and Mrs. Edward L. Whigham, a niece, Elizabeth Bruce Fletcher, and nephews, Edward L. Whigham and David Whigham.
