James Lenwood West

Funeral services for James Lenwood West, Sr., 93, of Coolidge will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Coolidge Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a member. Rev. Mike Keown and Rev. Curtis McCollough will officiate and internment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as active and honorary pallbearers. Mr. West died on July 18, 2009 at his residence. Born March 4, 1916 in Thomas Co., he was the son of John and Mittie Virginia Crawford West. He was married to Grace Ophelia West, who preceded him in death and was later married to Doshia Odom West, who survives. Mr. West was the owner of City Garage in Coolidge and also operated Patten Speedway for several years. He is also survived by sons and daughters in law, James Aaron & Dorothy West, Donny & Marcia West, J. L. Jim, Jr. & Betty West, and Steve & Bonnie Watts all of Coolidge; and daughter & son in law Linda Jean & James Loyd of Ochlocknee and daughter, Judy West of Coolidge. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and a sister Nezzie Cooper of Cairo. Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Care Hospice.
