James Madison Rayburn, Sr.
Services for James Madison Rayburn, Sr., 80, of Thomasville, are at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 26, 2009 at Dawson Street Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon. The Rev. Lee Waller and Rev. Bob Ferrel will officiate and interment is in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Nephews will be pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Grady Burgess Sunday School Class and Deacons. Mr. Rayburn died January 24, 2009 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born February 3, 1928, in Pavo, he was the son of the late William Abner and Ella Baughman Rayburn. On Aug. 27, 1948, in Barwick, he married Merle Garbett, who survives. He was a 1946 graduate of Dixie High School. Mr. Rayburn served in the United State Air Force. He was a farmer and a volunteer with the Thomas County Fire Department. In 1975 and 2006 he was awarded Kiwanis Club Thomas County Farmer of the Year. Other survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Wynelle R. and Harold Wade Thomaston of Dothan, Ala.; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Darlene Rayburn of Thomasville; grandchildren, Harold Wade Thomaston, Jr. and wife, Jenny, James Brian Thomaston, Jonathan Ashley Thomaston and wife, Nykki, Jeremy James Rayburn and wife, Jennifer, William Abner Rayburn, II, Allison Hope Rayburn and her fiancée Brock Ponder; great-grandchildren, Ava Thomaston, Samuel Thomaston, Rebecca Thomaston, Emma Grace Rayburn; sister, Irene White of Thomasville; brothers, Edward Rayburn and wife, Dorothy of Tallahassee, Fla., Herbert Rayburn of Thomasville; brother-in-law, Charles Waters and wife, Lou of Bainbridge. He was preceded in death by brothers, Judson Rayburn, Charles Rayburn; sisters, Thelma Harris, Katherine Banks, Margaret Waters. Memorials may be made to Dawson Street Baptist Church, 1025 N. Dawson Street, Thomasville, GA 31792, Lewis Hall Singletary Oncology Center, 116 Mimosa Dr. Thomasville, GA 31792, Hospice of Southwest Georgia, 818 Gordon Ave. Thomasville, GA 31792.
