James Allen Rollins, age 84, passed away on May 1, 2025 at Presbyterian Home of Quitman, Georgia. He was born April 20, 1941 in Ochlocknee, Georgia to Ausburn Rollins and wife, Nora Nesmith Rollins. He was preceded in death by his late wife of forty years, Linda S. Rollins.
Mr. Rollins graduated from Central High School, Thomasville, GA, and was a student teacher there while pursuing his education degree at Valdosta State College. Starting in 1967, he served in the Air Force for two years at Keesler, AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi. Mr. Rollins was a biology teacher at Cairo High School for over 15 years. He had a passionate love for local flora and fauna and contributed to the conservation of native pitcher plants and the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker. He also participated in the Georgia noxious weed survey, and a member of the National Genealogical Society.
He is survived by his son, James Rollins and his wife Laura Rollins and their two children, Joshua and Grace, of Fredericksburg, VA; daughter, Lori Philbin and her husband David Philbin and their sons, Grey, Chance, and Nash, of Arlington, MA; his brother, Jerry Rollins and wife Sandra Rollins; his sister Gail Tabor and husband Mark Tabor; his sister, Nancy Cook and husband John Cook; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A service will be held Friday, May 23rd at 11am at Ochlocknee Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Allen and Allen Celebration of Life Chapel.
