Graveside services for James Herman Sherrod Sr., 85, of Panama City, Florida will be held 10:00AM Friday, June 3 at Big Creek Cemetery. Mr. Sherrod went to be with the Lord on May 29, 2016. He was born on June 25, 1930 in Coolidge, GA. He was a retired Master Sergeant of the U.S. Army for 20 years and served in the National Guard for 6 years. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Lisa Sherrod. He is preceded in death by his parents Estell Benton and husband Willie Benton, and father Grady W. Sherrod and wife Mittie. He was the owner/operator of Sherrod Ice Cream in Panama City for 30 years. He is survived by two sons, James Herman Sherrod Jr and Michael John Sherrod Sr. (JoMarie Bakanovic); daughters Brenda Hendley (Jay), Courtney Williams (Ed) and Lisa Sherrod Reece (Phillip); brothers Alvis Benton (Tina) and Pete Sherrod; sisters Susie Sherrod, Jean Barrow and Elizabeth Chance (Howard), 14 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Larry Benton, Winston Sherrod and sister, Doris Lewis (Larry), stepbrother, Willie Lee Benton Jr. and son, Charles Alan Sherrod, and daughter in law, Debra Sherrod.
