James Alexander Sinnott

James Alexander Sinnott, M.D., FACG, FACP, an internist and gastroenterologist passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020 at the age of 59 at his home in Thomasville, Georgia.

Dr. Sinnott was born in Arlington, VA on January 29, 1961 to the late John P. Sinnott and Rose Marie (nee Yuppa) Sinnott. He was raised in New Providence, NJ and Summit, NJ and graduated from Oratory Preparatory School in Summit in 1979. He was awarded the National Rifle Association Sharpshooter’s medal in 1973 when he was a member of the Jr. Essex Troop in NJ. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA in 1983. After graduation from the American University of the Caribbean in Montserrat, Leeward Islands, he completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology at Sanai Grace Hospital in Detroit, MI. Dr. Sinnott was a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Sinnott started practicing gastroenterology in 1993 at the Valdosta Medical Clinic in Valdosta, GA. He served as the Chief of Gastroenterology at South Georgia Medical Center and Chairman of Medicine. Dr. Sinnott led South Georgia Medical Center into the age of electronic medical records and served as the Center’s first Chief Medical Informatics Officer. Dr. Sinnott was a partner at Valdosta Medical Clinic and affiliated with South Georgia Medical Center. In March, 2017 he joined the hospital’s medical staff at Archbold Memorial Hospital where he held the position of Chief Medical Informatics Officer.

Dr. Sinnott was a caring and passionate physician always wanting to help anyone in distress and he also had many varying interests. He was a pilot and flying was his passion. He was a true Renaissance man with an inquiring mind; he was an avid reader, a Star Trek fan, guitarist, and always ready to embrace the latest technology and computer advances.

Survivors include five children, Jeanette (Steve) Holian of Ashburn, VA, Theodore, John, Nicole and Alexander all of Thomasville; four grandchildren, Charlie, Hudson, Mallory and Jensen; his mother, Rose Marie Sinnott, and his sister Jessica Sinnott and her husband William Joseph Cotreau and survived by former wife and partner Anita Sinnott of Thomasville, Georgia.
