James Ervin Slappey

Memorial services for James Ervin Slappey, 83, of Ochlocknee will be at 3:00 PM on Tuesday May 26 at Rose City Church of God. Rev. Gerald Horne and Rev. Richard Dodson will officiate. Mr. Slappey died on May 24, 2015. Born October 1, 1931 in Colquitt Co., he was the son of the late James Odell and Lucille Nelly Gainous Slappey. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Slappey worked in construction. On April 9, 1977 he married Gertrude Brown Slappey who survives. Other survivors include sons, James Ira Slappey of Albany and Wade Odell Slappey of Mobile, AL; numerous grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Other survivors include a brother and sister in law, Jack Odell and Juanitta Slappey of Quincy, FL, sister, Martha Jean Johnson of Chipley, FL and a sister Stella Frances Pritchard of Pittsburg, PA. He was preceded in death by a daughter Hilda Theresa Slappey. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rose City Church of God, 2750 N. Pinetree Blvd., Thomasville, GA 31792.
