James Oren West

Graveside services for James Oren West will be on Thursday, October 15th, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pastor Jerry Bryson officiating. On October 9, 2020, James passed away at the age of 82. Born January 11, 1938 in Baker County, GA, he was the son of the late James Wilbur and Lucille Collins West. James joined the United States Navy after graduating from Baker County High School. He worked his way up to PR Chief Petty Officer and then retired in 1976 after twenty years served. James married Thelma Christine Young on February 4,1962. They raised two sons, Mark and Paul, and a daughter, Rebecca. James was preceded in death by his wife, Christine; son, Paul West; parents, Wilbur and Lucille West; and siblings, Nellie Stuckey, Johnny West, Hubert West, and Alton West. James is survived by his son, Mark West and wife Sharon of Thomasville; his daughter, Rebecca Davis and husband Michael of Coolidge; grandchildren, Garrett West and wife Ana of Raeford, NC, Megan West of Destin, FL, Nathan Davis of Coolidge, Josey West of Barwick, Emily West of Pavo, Kaitlin Stewart of Thomasville and Joseph Whigham of Thomasville. He is also survived by one great-grandchild, Jaye West. James was the oldest son of eight children and is survived by a brother, William West and wife Denise of Dawson, GA, and two surviving sisters: Elizabeth Young of Pavo and Avis Fowler and husband Joe of Guilford, IN. James was a dedicated member of Faith Baptist Church for more than forty years. He enjoyed piloting a small plane, trivia, was an avid reader, and generally loved talking with people.
