James Jimmy Albert Stegall, age 81, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, May 13 at John D. Archbold Hospital. A lifelong resident of Thomas County, he was born December 6, 1930 to the late Noah A. Chief Stegall and Lorene Colvin Stegall. Mr. Stegall was married in 1955 to Louise Cone and they were devoted to each other through 46 years of marriage. Mrs. Stegall preceded him in death in 2001.
Mr. Stegall completed his education at Thomasville High School. He served in the U.S. Navy on a destroyer during the Korean War. Returning to Thomasville, he joined Bell South and worked his entire career as an installer.
Jimmy Stegall loved his family and greatly enjoyed spending time with them, both at home and during family gatherings at the beach. His family and all who knew him took delight in his hearty laugh and fun-loving nature. Braves baseball, hunting, fishing, working in the yard, visiting with neighbors as they passed by, and tending his cats Casper and Tom were among his favorite pastimes.
An active member of Dawson Street Baptist Church until health issues hindered his activities, Mr. Stegall was a member of the Grady Burgess Sunday School Class.
A longtime member of the Thomasville Exchange Club, Mr. Stegall served most recently as chaplain. His favorite club activities, in addition to weekly meetings, were giving out U.S. flags to children at the annual Rose Bud Parade and taking up tickets and visiting with attendees at the Exchange Club Fair each year.
Mr. Stegall is survived by his children Libby S. Marshall of Thomasville, Mike Stegall wife Gail of Live Oak, FL, and Lori S. Echols husband Kurt of Louisville, Ky.; his grandchildren Melissa Stills, Michael Stegall, and Jason Stegall; and his great-grandchildren Hayes Stills and Ayleigh Stegall.
