Jamie White Oglesby, Senior departed this world January 2, 2013 peacefully at his home on his 84th birthday. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Delpha Folmer Oglesby, who departed this life November 15, 2009. They are survived by two children, Cathie Oglesby Campbell and Jamie White Oglesby, Jr. and wife Mary Kiger Oglesby, and five grandchildren: George A. Campbell, Jr. and wife Marquin McMath Campbell of Greenville, SC; Catherine Campbell Onnen and husband F.H. Tripp Onnen III of Georgetown, Washington, D.C.; Mary Jessica Oglesby, Olivia Oglesby, and Elizabeth Oglesby of Thomasville, Ga. Mr. Oglesby was born in Elberton, Ga January 02, 1929 to Hoke Cecil Oglesby and Mattie Fortson Oglesby. Mr. Oglesby in survived by a brother, Hoke Cecil Oglesby, Jr. of Athens, Ga and a sister Mary Thomas Oglesby Thomason of Elberton, Ga. Willard Oglesby, another brother, departed this world November 15, 2009, the same day Mr. Jamie Oglesby lost his wife. After matriculation in North Georgia College in Dahlonega Mr. Oglesby bought the Liberal, Kansas Memorial Granite Service which he operated until he served in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lt. in the Korean Conflict. Returning home he and his wife and daughter settled in Thomasville, Ga in 1954 where he opened Oglesby Monument Company. He and Del then became realtors with First Thomasville Realty. Mr. Ogles by was a longstanding member of Thomasville Rotary Club where he became a Paul Harris Fellow. He and his also supported the foreign student exchange program by hosting students from England and Argentina in the 1970's. He is past Charter President of the Thomasville Area Board of Realtors and serves as State Director of the Georgia Association of Realtors and RPAC Chairman for the Thomasville Area Board of Realtors. A lifelong Republican, Mr. Oglesby was elected to the State Legislature in 1964 where he served two terms and became the first elected Republican Minority Leader of the Georgia House. He also served as a delegate to the 1964 and 1968 Republican National Conventions. Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 05, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Laurel Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the home of Mary and Jamie Oglesby, Jr. at 7899 Metcalf Road Friday, January 04, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contribution be made to the Singletary Oncology Center 919 S.
