Janet Elizabeth Burt, a beloved member of the community, passed away on November 23, 2023, at the age of 75. She will be remembered for her kind heart, dedication to her family, and her unwavering passion for helping others.
Born on August 19, 1948, in Colquitt County, Janet was the loving daughter of Harrell and Hazel Peterman Barwick. On November 12, 1966, she married the love of her life, George K. Burt, with whom she shared many cherished memories.
Janet leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She was a devoted mother to her children, George S. Burt and Shannon F. Burt, and a doting grandmother to her grandson, Kenneth F. Bentley. Janet was also a beloved sister to Cathy B McGahee (Danny), Judy B Oliveto, Kelley Pilkinton (Chris), and Michael H. Barwick (Denice). She will be deeply missed by her four nieces, one nephew, three great nephews, and two great nieces.
Throughout her life, Janet dedicated her time and skills to various occupations. She worked for M.R.&R. Trucking for two years, Stones building supply for ten years, Sonny Burt Saddlery for fifteen years, and Archbold Memorial Hospital for twenty years. Janet took great pride in her work and was known for her professionalism and commitment to excellence.
In addition to her professional achievements, Janet was a woman of many interests and talents. She was an avid gardener and received the prestigious Garden of the Month award in 1998 in Thomasville. Janet also enjoyed fishing, reading, and indulging in her artistic endeavors. She was particularly fond of raising toy fox terriers, Boston terriers, and toy poodles over the years.
Janet's unwavering faith led her to become an active member of Pineland Baptist Church, where she found solace and community. She also dedicated her time to volunteering, making crochet hats for oncology patients and newborn babies, leaving a lasting impact on those she helped. She retired in February of 2023 due to illness.
A funeral service to honor Janet's life will be conducted by Brother Rick Whitley. The service will be held graveside at 10 am on November 27, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Brian Sculley, Joey Blackburn, Flynt Biles, Landon Oliveto, Michael Barwick, and Trent Biles.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and the Thomasville Humane Society, as Janet held a deep love and compassion for both causes.
Janet Elizabeth Burt will forever be remembered for her kindness, determination, and selflessness. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
