Services for Janet Dupre Parramore, 81, of Thomasville will be held Wednesday, July 18 at 11:00 am at Big Creek Baptist Church with private graveside services to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Parramore passed away July 15, 2012, at Camellia Gardens of Life Care.
Janet was born June 28, 1931, in Thomasville, GA. She was the daughter of the late Oliver Reed and Mallie Rigsby Dupre and was the youngest of six children, born after her beloved twin sister Jane. She was born and grew up in the Waverly House which was a boarding house that was operated by her family. Although she had 'chores' at the boarding house, she also worked at the Rose Theater as a teenage girl. She attended Thomasville High School until she married the late Claude Parramore on Jan 22, 1949. They moved to the family farm and lived with Claude's parents and started their family. She raised her family in a Christian home, full of love and understanding and had great influence on all of her grandchildren.
Janet spent most of her life as a homemaker on a working farm, but she also worked as the Voting Officer at the Merrillville Precinct and a volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Drive for several years. While she did not graduate from Thomasville High School, she got her GED later in life after she put all her children through school.
While Janet worked hard at everything she did, her favorite work was that of God's. As a young girl, she achieved twelve years of perfect Sunday school attendance at the United Methodist Church. She was a very active member in the Big Creek Baptist Church until she fell ill. She had many roles in the church throughout the years: Sunday school Teacher, Girls Association GAs Leader, Vacation Bible School Teacher and Craft Director, and organizer of many special events. Nothing gave her greater joy than the children of the church greeting her at her car to share with 'Ms Janet'. She was not only a caregiver for her family, but extended that blessing to many friends, family and even strangers. She was known for her Egg Custard Pie and Chinese Chewies and literally made hundreds for those in need.
Next to her love of God and family, was her love for flowers. While she grew a variety of flowers, she had a real love for Day Lilies. During the spring and summer, there were car paths in her yard from people riding through, enjoying her many flower beds. Often times they would also catch a glimpse of one of her peacocks strutting in the yard or the doves that were always close to her backdoor.
She is survived by her children, Dayne Parramore Carol, Abbie Parramore, Dale Parramore Jamie all of Thomasville, and Teri Hourihane Mike of Fleming Island, FL , her grandchildren Matthew Parramore Lainna, Sara Parramore, Janie Owens Jason, Krystal Smith Justin, Cory Parramore all of Thomasville and Kaitlin Parramore of Charleston, SC., her great grandchildren Kathryn Owens, Colin Owens, Ryan Smith, Mylin Parramore all of Thomasville, and Jordan Boatright of Jacksonville, FL, her sisters Helen Turner of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and Lucille Monk of Thomasville, her sister-in-law Jean Dupre of Thomasville, and her family at Camellia Gardens Life Care.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Claude Parramore, her twin sons Edward Dale Parramore and Oliver Reed Parramore, her parents, Oliver and Mallie Dupre, her sisters Virginia Gillian and Jane Tatro, her brother Oliver Reed Dupre III.
