Jean Morgan Hathaway passed away at her home June 7, 2018. She is survived by her husband, James J. Hathaway; her daughters, Debra Bennett (Jimmy), Tracie Brinson (Kerry), Paige Love (Steve); son, Scott Morgan (Carrie); step daughters, Beth Caldwell (Stan), Lynn Betros (Jeff), Kay Hathaway and the late Gill Hathaway; grandchildren, Taylor Froede (Florian), Morgan Pfister, Joshua Bennett, Anslee Mathews, Zack Milberg, Sydney Morgan, Madison Morgan and numerous great grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her late husband Ernie Morgan, and her parents Forest and Alma Wall.
She was born in Washington, Georgia on June 29, 1936. She grew up in Thomson, Georgia and graduated from Thomson High School. She attended Auburn University for three years and then transferred and graduated from the University of Georgia. She also received a Masters in Special Education from Valdosta State University.
Jean dedicated her life to the service of others and was a significant community minded person. She remained involved in many organizations in this area. Among them were First Baptist Church, Thomas County Food Bank, Thomas County ARC, Thomas County United Way and of course, the Archbold Hospital Auxiliary and served as a Trustee of the John D. Archbold Medical Center and the Archbold Health Center Boards of Trustees.
She was among America’s Who’s Who and was selected as the 2004 Woman of the Year by the Thomas County Chamber of Commerce. Jean’s greatest pleasures were her family, friends and her volunteer work.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Archbold Auxiliary, Thomas County Food Bank, and Lewis Hall Singletary Oncology Center.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday June 10, 2018 at Allen and Allen Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at First Baptist Church, Thomasville, on Monday, June 11, 2018 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
